During the run, Benefield collected three of the team’s 12 aces. The Sea Hawks also got strong contributions on serves from Summer Suppik, who had four aces, and Madi Collins, whose serve on set point forced a Marymount double contact violation.

“Our big momentum shift was definitely Addy’s serving run,” Zimmerman said.

Added Benefield: “First through fourth (sets), I missed a couple, and just having your team back you up and always just keep you playing, I think it’s really important to have a team that will motivate you even if you’ve missed so many.”

Dawgs Welcome Heard and Tulino to Montlake | Huskies Sign Talented Transfer Fletcher from South Carolina | Huskies Welcome Haury, Hunt on Signing Day

SEATTLE –
A new Husky has joined the pack for the upcoming season. Addy Benefield, originally from Vancouver, B.C. before moving to Redondo Beach, Calif., has signed her letter of intent to be a Dawg. Benefield is an outside hitter and is the sixth new Husky for the 2024 season.

“We are thrilled about the addition of Addy Benefield to our 2024 roster,” says Head Coach Leslie Gabriel. “Addy was the missing piece to our puzzle with this class. Her athleticism, determination and excitement for the game are what we love about her and what will help her to continue to improve and become the player she wants to be. We can’t wait for the Husky family to meet her.”

Benefield is the third member of the incoming Husky freshman class, joining fellow freshmen Julia Hunt (MB; Covington, Ky.) and Alexis Haury (S; Silverton, Ore.). UW also features incoming transfers Kiune Fletcher (OH; El Dorado, Trinidad & Tobago; South Carolina), Zoria Heard (DS/L; Rowlett, Texas; Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) and Sophia Tulino (OH; Carlsbad, Calif.; Santa Clara).

The right-side hitter helped Redondo Union qualify for the CIF Division I state championships in 2022 and 2023, reaching the regional semifinals in 2023. RUHS also made the Southern Section Division 2 semifinals in 2022 and 2023.

“I chose UW because it’s been my dream school since attending a basketball camp there as a child,” Benefield says. “The campus’s familiarity and the coaching staff’s commitment to guiding players as individuals solidified my decision. Joining UW feels like fulfilling my childhood dream.”

Benefield plays club volleyball for Surfside VC, helping the team earn a bid to 2024 Open nationals at the NEQ in Philadelphia.

“I’m incredibly excited for what the future holds, I can’t wait to wear purple and gold and be a Dawg.”
